Raft Race - Sunday 28th November 2010

The Double Deuce raft race was a successful day for all who took part and the spectators alike.  With the sea calm and the sun high in the sky you couldn't have asked for a better day to have some beach fun!

There were 3 official races.  The 1st race had 3 rafts 'Ley Dem Say', 'SS Minnow' and 'Green Hulk'. Ley Dem Say, built by the Double Deuce owners Lyndeeta and Mark, looked the most interesting.  However when the race started it was clear that looking interesting was not gonna help Ley Dem Say win the race.

Ley Dem Say not doing well in race 1 In fact, Ley Dem Say were having trouble steering, going off in the wrong direction!  Meanwhile, SS Minnow were paddling out to the half way post (the pink bouy) at speed with Green Hulk behind struggling to keep up.  The 1st race was easily won by SS Minnow who finished in approx 2 minutes. Ley Dem Say came in some 10 minutes later atfer being help by the SS Minnow team to push them around the halfway point and back to the finish line.

The 1st race was put down as a practice run and the 'J Sugar' raft team arrived to join in the fun.  After a few adjustments to the buoyancy of Ley Dem Say they were ready for the 2nd race.

The 2nd race started out a much more compact race but SS Minnow managed to get in front of the pack with Green Hulk on their tail. Ley Dem Say were also doing well paddling hard behind Green Hulk. J Sugar struggled at the back with their 1 tyre raft which had buoyancy but no control on steering.  So SS Minnow came in 1st with Green Hulk in 2nd place.  Ley Dem Say had a much better race and came in 3rd place whilst J Sugar trailed in last place.

So lets guess who won the 3rd race? Yes, with 3 wins under their belt it was SS Minnow that stole the day!

It was a fun afternoon for all with volley ball, football, trampolining and of course good food and drink!
